Ostrich SL-100 Rinko Bag

$109.00

A bag for your bike that packs smaller than a waterbottle. When not in use. it fits under your saddle, in your handlebar bag or in a bottle cage. Large enough to fit a full-size randonneur Rinko bike, the bag is made from ultralight SilNylon and weighs just 200 grams. The superlight bag is intended for experienced riders, since it is more fragile than the sturdier, but otherwise similar Ostrich L-100 Rinko bag.

Rinko is the Japanese system of packing bikes for train travel. It’s an elegant way of converting your bike into a small package that you sling over your shoulder and carry on trains, subways, buses or in other crowded places. It is very satisfying to ride up to a train station, and 15 minutes later, your bike is reduced to a neat, small package. It’s also a great way to carry your bike in a car – it requires little space, and the Rinko bag keep your other luggage from getting soiled by the chain and other oily parts. A Rinko bike doesn’t need couplers or other parts that add cost and complexity, and compromise the ride quality. Consider a few small details when designing the frame, use a few special parts, and a standard bike can be packed Rinko-style.

The bag comes with a carrying strap that attaches to the bike. (The bag only drapes over the bike and does not bear the weight of the bike). Three small straps keep the parts of the bike (frame; fork/front wheel; rear wheel/rear fender) together and rattle-free.

Pro Tip: You can also use the L-100 and SL-100 Rinko bags to pack a fender-less bike without removing the fork. Remove both wheels, stand the bike on the rear dropouts and saddle, and attach the wheels to each side. Then drape the bag over the bike.
